Miss Kate McDonald
Teacher
Miss Kate began her dance training at 8 years old in Nova Scotia at Stars of Tomorrow Dance Academy. She competed in multiple dance competitions across Canada and the United States, dancing in a variety of styles including Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Acro. At the age of 15, Miss Kate was accepted into the Joffrey Ballet School Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program in New York City. Following her first year of training she transferred into the Ballet Trainee program where she focused in Classical and Contemporary Ballet.
Throughout her time in NYC, Miss Kate had the opportunity to dance in many Joffrey Ballet performances playing leading roles including Sugar Plum and Snow Queen(Nutcracker), Gypsy Soloist (Donquiote), and performed soloist roles in multiple contemporary and Balanchine pieces set by Stacy Caddell. During her four years in New York she also competed in the World Ballet Grand Prix, and danced in Marc Jacob's Spring 2020 New York Fashion Week show.
2nd Season
Miss Kate spent many of her summers training in various summer intensives including the National Ballet of Canada, Alonzo King Lines in San Francisco, Ellison Ballet in New York City, the Paris Dance Tour in France, Arts Umbrella in Vancouver, and the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. Miss Kate is also an experienced choreographer participating in Self Choreography Showcases as well as choreographing group and solo competition pieces, including a YAGP Ballet solo.
After graduating from the Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program in 2020, Miss Kate was accepted into the Alberta Ballet School Post Graduate Program where she has spent the last year training. Miss Kate will complete her post graduate training in the spring of 2022 and aspires to continue dancing with a professional ballet or contemporary ballet company. Miss Kate is excited to be back for another season at at Diversity Dance and Performing Arts!
