Rocky Aquino is a born-and-raised Calgarian whose work as a dancer, choreographer, and educator continues to make an impact in his home city. He began his journey performing traditional cultural dances, and was fortunate to have access to school-based dance programs throughout junior high and high school. During those formative years, Rocky built a diverse foundation in Locking, Salsa, Bollywood, West African, and Hip-Hop — all of which continue to influence his creative movement today.
His passion for choreography emerged early and has evolved into a distinct artistic vision. Dedicated to growth, Rocky has trained across Canada and internationally, including in Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, and London.
His competitive career as a dancer has allowed him to compete on international stages such as Hip-Hop International Qualifiers in Ottawa, to World of Dance Edmonton, Vancouver, and Las Vegas. He has also been granted opportunities such as performing at the JUNO Awards for Alessia Cara and receiving scholarship opportunities through World of Dance. Rocky’s experiences in the competitive sector and commercial industry have allowed him to develop his artistry.
As an educator, Rocky is known for his team-first approach and values the role of community in dance development. Teaching throughout Calgary, he continues to refine his skills as a mentor and leader, committed to uplifting the next generation of movers. He hopes to continue watching the Hip-Hop and street dance scene develop in Calgary, with more talent being recognized and shining a light on a city that holds such gifted movers!
