Diversity Dance and Performing Arts

🔆DIVERSITY ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - Miss Laura McLean🔆 When I danced at Diversity I tried everything from jazz to ballet to musical theatre. Surprisingly, I never did tap or hip hop, even though tap has always been one of my favourite styles of dance. Being a dancer at diversity is one of the most amazing things that ever happened to me. I can not put into words how much it changed my life. Diversity taught me that anything is possible if I work hard enough. I never though I would go en pointe, but the day I got my pointe shoes is one of my favourite memories. Pointe classes were hard (and involved a lot of toe tape) but some of the most rewarding classes I took. The feeling of being unable to walk down stairs because of sore, wobbly legs was worth the hour in class when I felt like I was flying. Enrichment was incredible and allowed me to learn fun, interesting routines which are some of my favourite to this day, and taught me to not be afraid to let go and just dance. The experiences I had in class, in competition, and through interning as a student-teacher have taught me that hard work, discipline, and passion can lead you anywhere. I have incredible memories of dancing dressed in a floor length wedding gown (as Frankenstein’s bride for musical theatre) and dancing on chairs for a jazz routine. My dance teachers inspire me even today as I remember that they taught me that anything is possible and pushed me to be the best I could be.

I still dance (not as much as before, but I still do!). Since graduating high school I have moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta where I study Classical Languages. Someday I hope to be a professor in a university and teach ancient languages to other students. For fun I take tap (I finally picked up tap!), contemporary, jazz, and ballet classes as often as I can.

Being a part of team Diversity and learning to dance with some amazing people (some of who I am sill friends with today) and under amazing teachers are some of the best memories I have. 💚💜💙

Good leadership! We don't need to put parents, teachers and students through the anxiety of driving in this stormy conditions to dance classes. Thanks!

Thank you for letting us know through email as well
